These Heady Days of Summer (Term)

Because here, summer is an excuse for MORE school! Yee ha. Been driving myself bananas for the past few weeks, studying for exams. As of today, three down, three to go. Then just the little matter of a dissertation to write. Oh, and except for the giant distraction of my parents and Alex arriving for two weeks today, leaving just in time for my next three tests. Whatever, I'd rather they were here at a bad time than not at all. They arrive later this afternoon and I keep going on aircanada.com to watch their little animated plane fly over the map on the "Flight Status" feature...I guess I'm a little excited.

Highlights of the past few weeks:
- Wallet with all ID, credit cards and a ginormous amount of cash stolen in a Coffee Republic on Tottenham Court Road. Merriment ensues with London Metropolitan Police, their special "task force" on wallet crime, and a special "How you must feel as a victim of crime" pamphlet. I am contemplating going to the free counselling they offer as part of "victim services" for this kind of thing, just for the fun of it.
- Being on the guest list for De la Soul last Thursday and deciding, after a supreme struggle of conscience, that I needed to study for my exam the next morning instead. A decision I may regret for years to come? Stay tuned...
- Seeing Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Ehle in "The Philadelphia Story" at the Old Vic. Oh, Kevin. Even when playing a man named CK Dexter Haven with a fondness for suspenders, you are sexy.
- Managing to score Beck (June 1 at the Hammersmith Apollo) and Chemical Brothers (May 26 at Brixton Academy) standing tickets for my brother and I, at less than face value. Thank you Edy. Thank you Gumtree.com.
- Welcoming the first of the next generation of the Gilleran side of the family...Owen Tate Venier was born May 7, about a month early. I'm so happy for Mark and Bob I could spit and I can't wait to meet Little Dude when I get home in July.

Yep. it's just a month and a half to go until it's time to say cheerio to Ol' Blighty and return to Canada to take up residence in the City of Glass. I'm glad I have so much going on in the meantime so I don' t have to sort out how I feel about it. My mantra right now is "we're here for a good time, not a long time. We're here for a good time, not a long time . We're here for a..."
